Louis Stieglitz, 58, died at his home three and one-half miles west of the city Saturday evening about 7 o’clock, of cirrhosis of the liver. He has been in failing health for some time and about a year ago consulted a specialist at Indianapolis, without receiving assurances of permanent relief. He was married to Jennie Gauding November 29 1889, and came to Elwood with the early glass workers from that city in 1891, since which time the family has resided here.
He was an employee of the Macbeth-Evans glass factory in the early days and later engaged in business, which he continued until about a year ago when he retired and purchased the farm on which he resided at the time of his death.

He was known for his strict integrity in business transactions, staunch fidelity to his friends, and as a neighbor and citizen he was always active for the good of his city and its interests. He was a factor in local politics for a number of years and a man who was dependable at all times.
He is survived by the widow, four brothers, Albert and Carl of this city, Henry of New York, William of Pittsburgh; and one sister, Mrs. Mary May of Flint, Mich.

Mrs. Louise Virginia Steiglitz, [as spelled in original newspaper article]58, wife of Louis Steiglitz, died at her home at Fifth and Main street, Sunday morning at 2 o’clock of peritonitis, following an ailment from which she suffered some months ago and which required her to spend several weeks in the Alexandria hospital.
With a party of relatives she had been sojourning at Lake Tippecanoe for the past three weeks and seemed to be improving in health. Last Wednesday she was taken suddenly and seriously ill and expressing a desire to be brought home, was removed there Saturday. She was a much-beloved woman, especially attached to her home, and grieved greatly at the loss of her helpmate who died in December of 1919. There were no children. To her friends and neighbors she was known familiarly as “Jennie,” and they all agree that there never was woman with more lovable qualities. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved relatives.

She is survived by one brother, Henry W. Gauding, of Pittsburg, who with his wife, was spending his vacation with the family party at the lake, and two sisters, Mrs. George W. Libler and Mrs. Albert J. Steiglitz, of this city.
